Ruling for Relief for the Fence Around the 5th Green
I have been asked a number of times over the past couple of weeks regarding the ruling for relief for the fence around the 5th green.
So just to clear this up:
- Line of sight relief cannot be taken, if you on the opposite side of the green with the fence in your way, you must play it as it lies.
- Free relief can be taken if the fence impedes the players swing or stance.
- This should then be taken at the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole, sometimes the nearest point will be on the opposite side of the fence.
- 1 club length can then be taken.
This is the same ruling for all course furniture, paths and any immovable objects.
