Haydock Park Golf Club

New Professional - Craig Gould

CRAIG Gould is relishing the new challenges after his move to be the professional at Haydock Park.

He had been the head pro at Blackley Golf Club, in Manchester for 21 years before making the move to the Newton-le-Willows-based club last month.

Gould said: “I began playing golf at Ashton-under-Lyne at the age of 13 and made great progress to be selected for Lancashire Boys before joining the professional ranks at the age of 18.

“My first professional job was being the assistant at Bramhall before moving to the same role back at Ashton working with their professional and my great friend, the late Colin Boyle.

“I was able to play in a mixture of regional PGA events and Pro-Ams and did well to win a couple.

“The next move was to be the professional at Blackley in 1998 and among my proud achievements were building up a strong teaching clientele, introducing youth to the ladies section and creating a junior T-pegs group for six to 14-year-olds.”

He also enjoyed some retail success, thanks to lots of help from Boyle, who passed away late last year at the age of 60. Gould added: “I now have a fantastic opportunity at Haydock and I am really excited about things we have in the pipeline. I’ll be working with all sections of the club including teams and officials.

“The Haydock members have been amazingly welcoming and I have already started to play golf with a few of them. I am assembling a first-rate team to service the members and visitors to this fine club.”

Gould replaces Peter Kenwright who retired on New Year’s Eve after almost 50 years as the club’s professional.
